Best Coffee in Brooklyn, New York

The burrow of trees. BK. The borough of homes and churches. This is Brooklyn, New York, and this is iTravel. Or a coffee. My name is Mike, and I’m on a mission to find the best coffee that this world has to offer. From coffee roasters to coffee shops and everything in between, this is I Travel For Coffee.

Good morning, everybody, and welcome to a crisp fall morning here in Brooklyn, New York. So Brooklyn has quite the coffee scene. In fact, it was really hard to break down—four places out of all the coffee shops that are here. I expect people who may live in the area or visit Brooklyn often to let me know all the places I missed that are their favorites. It was very difficult, but I do believe that we have four coffee shops that you will absolutely love. So let’s go check them out. So Brooklyn hasn’t always been part of New York City. In fact, it didn’t join the five boroughs until the 1890s. So they were not part of New York City.

In fact, if you were to take Brooklyn out of New York City today, it would still be America’s fourth-largest city. That’s how many people are here in Brooklyn. So, it’s pretty wild to think about: Brooklyn joining New York City, but apart would still be gigantic. So we are in the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn right now, where we will find our first coffee roaster of the day. They primarily focus on roasting Colombian coffee. They are very popular—not just here in New York City or in Brooklyn, but worldwide. Let’s go check out Devotion Coffee Roasters.

All right, so we are at Devotion here in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, a very, very popular coffee shop. I went with a cappuccino today. It looks impressively good. And I don’t know if you saw it in here. I’m sure you did, because obviously this is a video. But it’s really, really pretty. They got a huge skylight. They got this backdrop here. And I was in the old location, and this one is a… Basically, I feel like I’m in that same location. They just mimicked it. They mirrored it exactly and just moved it to a new location. Devotion gets all of their beings from me. Colombia they are using direct from Colombia and their motto here is from farm to cup in ten days so pretty crazy and I’m that because they are going through lots and lots of people every single day as I said this is a very very popular coffee shop here in Brooklyn, New York and for good reason they know exactly what they’re doing with that said

Let’s have our first sip of Devotion. Thank you. That is an absolutely delicious cup of coffee. It is not bitter in the least bit. It doesn’t taste like the beans got charred. It is perfect. perfectly well roasted. It has a nutty flavor, and I really enjoy how it mixes with the milk. This is really good. If you’re somebody who likes just a middle-of-the-road cappuccino that doesn’t go really, really dark like some of the mainstream coffee shops are doing today, this is what you’re looking for. Taking Colombian beans like they are and turning them into this is an art form. And Devotion might do it better than anything. Anywhere else in the world, or definitely in the United States.

What they do with Colombian coffee is put Colombian coffee back on the map. In fact, every time I get a Colombian coffee from somewhere, I compare it to what Devotion tastes like because it is that good. All right, so we have finished that entire cup, and again, if you love the atmosphere of a coffee shop, you cannot beat this one if you’re anywhere near Williamsburg in Brooklyn. Get to Devotion. Check it out. Come in here. Hang out for a while. So, so cool. Let’s move on to the next one. Alright, so we just left Devotion here in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Devotion is such an awesome place. Amazing people working in there. They are super, super awesome. That shop is beautiful, with its skylight and plants.

It is a really, really cool spot to go and hang out. On top of that, their coffee is spectacular. Williamsburg has many, many coffee shops; Brooklyn has many, many coffee shops. But Devotion is definitely high, high, high on that list. Not just here in Brooklyn, but in New York City in general. And they do have other locations. Other locations over in Midtown and some other areas as well. All right, for our next coffee shop, we are going to hop on a subway, leave the Williamsburg area, and head up to Bushwick to check out our second coffee shop here in Brooklyn. Let’s go. Check it out.

All right, we just hopped off the train in Williamsburg and rode it all the way to Bushwick. This is a very hip area. The area of Brooklyn, and a lot of people will tell you that it’s their favorite area of Brooklyn, and it’s the coolest. We are going to check out not one but two different coffee roasters here in the Bushwick neighborhood. And we are right around the corner from the first one. Let’s go check out, say, Coffee Roasters. Second stop here in Brooklyn. Let’s go.

All right, so Say Coffee Roasters here in the Bushwick section of Brooklyn. This is not only one of Brooklyn’s but also one of New York City’s premier coffee roasters. So I have never sipped Say Coffee. This is the first time. Let’s take a drink of it and see what we say. Thank you. That is a really, really delicious cup of coffee. So this one’s totally different than the one at Devotion that we just had. This is a fruit-forward cup. This is, I’m going to throw out— a limb maybe— Ethiopian roast, and I’m pretty sure that’s what it is because it gives you that fruity undertone. I, for one, love the taste of Ethiopian coffee in an espresso.

Oftentimes, it’s in a blend with Brazil as a base, but Ethiopian does something to espresso that really makes it pop out. This is a cappuccino, so I didn’t mention that, but it is a… It is a really, really good cup of coffee. So they roast their beans on site here. You can see the roaster is actually back in this room behind me in the glass. So they are doing all their roasting here, selling their beans, and selling their coffee. This is a must-stop for coffee fans in Brooklyn. Go out of your way to find Say. Come here, check it out. You will not be disappointed—I would almost recommend this to anyone, because it has such a good flavor that I think anybody who has this coffee can get down with it.

It is so so good, and the vibe in here is awesome. You got plants hanging from the ceiling again, you got skylights— so two cool coffee shops so far here in Brooklyn. We’ve hit two awesome coffee roasters here in Brooklyn, and we’re about to go to another roaster that is truly about a five-minute walk, and it is also here in the Bushwick section. Of Brooklyn now, you would say this one is maybe a little more obscure because people don’t know a whole lot about it, and I think that’s going to change in the future because they are really, really good at what they’re doing. They’re currently sharing a location with a comedy club here in Brooklyn. Let’s go check out obscure coffee roasters. Let’s go.

It was absolutely amazing and I would definitely, definitely—second that.

All right, so we are making our way to the Gowanus section of Brooklyn.
